Talks are expected to move forward this week.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"42\" data-block-id=\"4\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">The list may include some items whose import tax rates were raised in February by decision of the Executive Management Committee (Gecex) of the Foreign Trade Chamber (Camex). These are machinery and information technology goods that have similar products made in Brazil.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"17\" data-block-id=\"5\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">As Valor reported, the increase in import tariffs would generate R$14 billion in additional revenue this year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"33\" data-block-id=\"7\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">The list being negotiated with the U.S. government also includes products that have no similar goods made in Brazil and are manufactured by the United States, said a person familiar with the talks.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"59\" data-block-id=\"8\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">The list was presented during a meeting between technical teams from the two countries, when Brazil laid out some possibilities within the tariff agenda on which it is willing to move forward. The proposals are now being assessed by the U.S. government.\u00a0<a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/measures.globo.com\/v1\/click?c=busca-headless&amp;h=1200528ba24b90138b7bb40a3721a9df852823fae626686dd7c7b9ab299337cbd87cc5d20792b50feffee3cd07f1573e9cec9f82d92bd53201a27fb05cb1d50d&amp;k=globocom.busca-headless&amp;pa=1&amp;po=1&amp;q=PIX&amp;qid=valorinternational.info_query_recency&amp;t=valorinternational&amp;ts=1780395537&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fvalorinternational.globo.com%2Fforeign-affairs%2Fnews%2F2026%2F06%2F01%2Fbanks-pix-face-risks-from-us-move-against-gangs.ghtml&amp;_gl=1*17uucl8*_ga*NjMzMTY3MjY1LjE3NDI5Nzc1OTU.*_ga_NWTRTWY1TF*czE3ODAzOTU1MzckbzQzMCRnMSR0MTc4MDM5NTUzNyRqNjAkbDAkaDA.\">Any negotiation involving Pix<\/a>, Brazil\u2019s instant payments system, for example, is ruled out by the Brazilian side.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"26\" data-block-id=\"9\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">The talks are being held within the bilateral working group created after the May 7 meeting between Presidents Luiz In\u00e1cio Lula da Silva and Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"4\" data-block-id=\"10\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\"><strong>Negotiations expected to continue<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"71\" data-block-id=\"11\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">The 30-day deadline initially set for the group\u2019s work ended Sunday (7). However, the expectation is that negotiations will continue in the coming weeks, at least until July 15, the scheduled date for the conclusion of the administrative process conducted by the U.S. that could result in a 25% surcharge on part of Brazilian exports. During this period, Brazil will try to build a negotiated solution capable of preventing the measure.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"42\" data-block-id=\"12\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">Last week, the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) released\u00a0<a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/measures.globo.com\/v1\/click?c=busca-headless&amp;h=83f4975520ee546517070ef05d3ee7c44581a6c942cd4706f82e28b6b202499620e3091b36c94b7bad8ddff5ca596b0f30a7826361e6606f313ed1ae81e4330e&amp;k=globocom.busca-headless&amp;pa=1&amp;po=2&amp;q=SECTION+301&amp;qid=valorinternational.info_query_recency&amp;t=valorinternational&amp;ts=1780999535&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fvalorinternational.globo.com%2Fforeign-affairs%2Fnews%2F2026%2F06%2F02%2Fus-proposes-25percent-tariffs-on-brazilian-goods.ghtml&amp;_gl=1*misndp*_ga*NjMzMTY3MjY1LjE3NDI5Nzc1OTU.*_ga_NWTRTWY1TF*czE3ODA5OTk1MzUkbzQ0NSRnMCR0MTc4MDk5OTUzNSRqNjAkbDAkaDA.\">its preliminary conclusion on investigations conducted under Section 301 of the Trade Act<\/a>, which allows tariffs on products in response to practices deemed harmful to the competitiveness of U.S. products.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"33\" data-block-id=\"13\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">Launched in July last year, the investigation covers issues ranging from Pix to illegal deforestation, the fight against corruption, and commerce on 25 de Mar\u00e7o Street, a major shopping area in S\u00e3o Paulo.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"46\" data-block-id=\"15\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">For now, the 25% tariff resulting from the investigation is a recommendation. The Brazilian government believes at least one or two more meetings of the bilateral working group will be needed to determine whether there is room for an agreement that could avoid the tariff increase.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"2\" data-block-id=\"16\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\"><strong>Affected sectors<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"35\" data-block-id=\"17\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">Alongside negotiations with Washington D.C., the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services (MDIC) is expected to resume sectoral working groups with the private sector, following the same model used during the first tariff round.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"25\" data-block-id=\"18\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">The government believes it will be necessary to mobilize the sectors potentially affected to discuss trade-protection strategies and monitor the impact of the U.S. measures.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"55\" data-block-id=\"20\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">As Valor reported, MDIC has already started talks with some segments and plans to broaden the dialogue in the coming days. Meetings are planned with representatives of the footwear industry, as well as new talks with entities such as the American Chamber of Commerce for Brazil (Amcham Brasil) and the National Confederation of Industry (CNI).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"37\" data-block-id=\"21\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">In addition, some Brazilian products may also be subject to an additional 12.5% tariff applied by the U.S. to about 60 countries on the grounds of failures to combat the entry of goods produced with forced labor.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-track-category=\"multicontent\" data-track-action=\"ultimo chunk conteudo\" data-track-noninteraction=\"false\" data-track-scroll=\"view\">\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"42\" data-block-id=\"22\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">In that case, the total tariff burden could reach 37.5%.
