Telef\u00f4nica, which operates under the Vivo brand, posted net income of R$1.3 billion in the second quarter, according to results released Monday night (28).<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<div id=\"mc-article-body\" class=\"mc-article-body \">\n<article>\n<div class=\"no-paywall\">\n<div class=\"wall protected-content\">\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"43\" data-block-id=\"3\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\">\u201cWe\u2019re still looking [at opportunities], but it\u2019s clear we need to grow our network given the fiber potential in Brazil,\u201d Mr. Gebara said. FiBrasil currently has 4.6 million homes passed with fixed broadband coverage. Including FiBrasil\u2019s infrastructure, Vivo now reaches 30.1 million homes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"58\" data-block-id=\"4\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\">Telef\u00f4nica estimates that Brazil\u2019s addressable fiber broadband market comprises roughly 60 million homes, based on commercial viability. Founded in 2021, FiBrasil was originally a 50\/50 joint venture with Canadian fund CDPQ. Telef\u00f4nica paid R$850 million to acquire CDPQ\u2019s stake, increasing its ownership to 75%. The remaining 25% remains with Telef\u00f3nica Infra, a subsidiary of the Spanish parent company.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"20\" data-block-id=\"5\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\">FiBrasil was designed as a neutral fiber network\u2014open to all operators\u2014but the model failed to gain traction in Brazil.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"41\" data-block-id=\"6\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\">\u201cThis whole neutral fiber network model, with multiple clients, didn\u2019t take off. Not just FiBrasil, but the market as a whole saw little demand from third parties beyond the anchor tenant, which in this case was Vivo,\u201d Mr. Gebara acknowledged.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"54\" data-block-id=\"7\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\">With full control of FiBrasil, Telef\u00f4nica expects greater operational flexibility and access to synergies. \u201cIt\u2019s time for us to take a more active role in managing this asset. We see opportunities for synergy and increasing network penetration,\u201d he said. \u201cFiBrasil\u2019s current customer penetration rate is about 16%, while ours [Vivo\u2019s] is over 24%.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"58\" data-block-id=\"8\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\">In the second quarter, Telef\u00f4nica Brasil reported net earnings of R$1.3 billion, up 10% from the same period in 2024. Total revenue rose 7.1% to R$14.6 billion, driven by growth in postpaid mobile services (up 10.9% to R$8.2 billion) and fiber broadband (up 10.4% to R$1.9 billion), outpacing inflation, as calculated by the Extended Consumer Price Index (IPCA).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"27\" data-block-id=\"9\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\">Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) totaled R$5.9 billion in the quarter, up 8.8%, with a margin of 40.5%\u2014compared to 39.9% a year earlier.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"18\" data-block-id=\"10\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\">Total costs excluding depreciation and amortization reached R$8.7 billion, up 5.9% year-over-year, mainly due to increased commercial activity.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"26\" data-block-id=\"11\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\">Cost increases were partly offset by operational efficiencies and higher use of digital channels, such as PIX instant payments, which accounted for 44% of total collections.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"57\" data-block-id=\"13\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\">Digital services and new business lines accounted for 11.2% of Telef\u00f4nica\u2019s trailing 12-month revenue as of June, up from 9.5% a year earlier\u2014reflecting efforts to diversify revenue streams. \u201cIf we look at absolute values, B2C digital services\u2014which account for three percentage points of the 11.2%\u2014grew by 14.8%,\u201d said Mr. Gebara. Meanwhile, corporate services grew by 31.3% year-over-year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"30\" data-block-id=\"14\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\">The operator ended June with a customer base of 116.2 million accesses, a 1.3% increase from the prior year. Postpaid subscriptions continued to grow, up 7% to 68.5 million lines.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"30\" data-block-id=\"15\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\">When asked about a potential sale of Telef\u00f4nica Brasil shares by the Spanish parent\u2014a possibility raised by Spanish newspaper El Economista\u2014Mr. Gebara said he did not know any such move.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"66\" data-block-id=\"16\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\">\u201cWhat I can say is that Telef\u00f4nica Brasil remains a core asset for the group, along with Spain, Germany, and the UK. Brazil is a key contributor to the group\u2019s performance in terms of both growth and cash generation. In 2024, we accounted for 23% of group revenue\u2014even with the depreciation of the real\u2014and 32% of the group\u2019s EBITDA and operating cash flow,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-track-category=\"multicontent\" data-track-action=\"ultimo chunk conteudo\" data-track-noninteraction=\"false\" data-track-scroll=\"view\">\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"49\" data-block-id=\"17\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\">In late June, El Economista reported that the Spanish parent company was considering two options to finance acquisitions in Spain and elsewhere in Europe without increasing debt: a capital raise or the sale of a 20% stake in its Brazilian operations.
