In response, Bosch\u2019s global leadership invited the executive heading Latin American operations to Germany to explain how to navigate a region accustomed to volatility.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wall protected-content\">\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"31\" data-block-id=\"2\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\">\u201cWhen things started getting rough, they said, \u2018Come tell us how you do business in Latin America,\u2019\u201d said Argentine Gast\u00f3n Diaz P\u00e9rez, who has led Bosch in the region since 2022.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"80\" data-block-id=\"3\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\">Mr. Per\u00e9z titled his presentation \u201cDriving in the Fog.\u201d It opened with a car approaching Copacabana, complete with palm trees, the beach, and Brazilian music. A click later, thick fog set in, blinding the road ahead. The car\u2019s headlights turned on, revealing just a few meters of visibility. \u201cDoing business in Brazil, you can\u2019t see the long term,\u201d he said. And in Argentina? \u201cThat would be the extreme\u2014driving with the lights off,\u201d he added. \u201cThe Germans loved it,\u201d he recalled.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"44\" data-block-id=\"4\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\">\u201cWe\u2019re used to making decisions in volatile environments. That\u2019s an advantage we have over the rest of the world, which is now uncomfortable,\u201d said Mr. Per\u00e9z, pointing to U.S. trade policy as an example. \u201cI think the world has shifted into Latin American mode.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"54\" data-block-id=\"5\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\">From Bosch\u2019s perspective, this shift could play in the region\u2019s favor. The world\u2019s largest automotive parts maker has not only learned from the region\u2019s economic instability but has also begun to recognize the potential of its Brazilian subsidiary, which combines technical expertise, a concentration of talent, and competitive advantages\u2014enabling reduced reliance on the headquarters.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"5\" data-block-id=\"6\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\"><strong>Bet on electric engines<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"64\" data-block-id=\"7\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\">One of the latest developments in talks between Bosch Brasil and global leadership is the potential production of electric motors for vehicles. If approved, the German multinational would begin manufacturing electric or hybrid engines in either Campinas (S\u00e3o Paulo) or Curitiba (Paran\u00e1), where its factories are located. The experience would start with heavy vehicles, Mr. Per\u00e9z said. These plans are under evaluation, he noted.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"59\" data-block-id=\"8\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\">Further along is the plan to localize production of the ESP (Electronic Stability Program), a system that controls vehicle traction. Bosch has been manufacturing the mechanical component of this system in Brazil for about a decade. By the end of this year, it will begin producing the electronic component as well, which is currently imported from Mexico and Asia.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"55\" data-block-id=\"9\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\">\u201cThis is a highly sophisticated computer. If a truck suddenly appears in front of you, the ESP system brakes and lets you swerve. You think you\u2019re a great driver, but it\u2019s the system that managed everything,\u201d Mr. Per\u00e9z said. \u201cImagine the sensor data processing speed required to make a decision at 100 kilometers per hour.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"3\" data-block-id=\"10\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\"><strong>Latin America growth<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"55\" data-block-id=\"11\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\">The localization of parts and new projects have helped drive Bosch\u2019s growth in Latin America. While results were less favorable in key global markets, the company\u2019s revenue in the region rose 12% in 2024 to R$10.8 billion. Brazil accounted for 77% of that, or R$8.4 billion, with exports making up 21% of the total.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"24\" data-block-id=\"12\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\">Mr. Per\u00e9z said the strong result stems from both improved competitiveness and growth in the automotive market, Bosch\u2019s main business segment in the region.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"61\" data-block-id=\"13\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\">\u201cCars are becoming more and more high-tech. That helps a company like ours, because we sell technology to the auto industry,\u201d he said. Mr. Per\u00e9z expects continued growth as hybrid vehicle production increases\u2014especially flex-fuel hybrids that can run on ethanol. \u201cAll automakers have announced they\u2019ll launch one or more flex hybrid models in the coming years, and we\u2019re happy about that.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"59\" data-block-id=\"14\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\">Mr. Per\u00e9z said the headquarters sees Latin America as a region that \u201cgrows below its potential.\u201d \u201cWe all feel that Brazil\u2019s GDP could be growing 6% or 7%, right? The region is far from global conflicts, geopolitically neutral, and still has a young population and many of the resources the world will need in the coming years,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"2\" data-block-id=\"15\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\"><strong>Agribusiness potential<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"61\" data-block-id=\"16\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\">Food production is one of those key resources, Mr. Per\u00e9z noted. That\u2019s why Bosch has been investing in agribusiness technology. In February, Brazil was selected as the group\u2019s global research and development center for agriculture. \u201cOur clients are here,\u201d he said. The plan includes a R$200 million investment and the hiring of 100 professionals, including several who were previously working abroad.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"36\" data-block-id=\"17\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\">Mr. Per\u00e9z underscored Brazil\u2019s role in boosting global food output. \u201cBesides favorable weather and abundant fresh water, we have three harvests a year. Latin America will be the world\u2019s top food exporter in the coming years.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"38\" data-block-id=\"18\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\">As an example of new agricultural technologies, Mr. Per\u00e9z highlighted an intelligent sprayer developed using artificial intelligence. The system can distinguish between weeds and soybean plants, spraying herbicide only where needed\u2014even at speeds of 20 kilometers per hour.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"43\" data-block-id=\"19\">\n<p class=\" content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"Article links\">\u201cAre we going to keep just producing grains and importing technology from others?
