{"id":92976,"date":"2025-02-12T19:17:36","date_gmt":"2025-02-12T22:17:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/murray.adv.br\/?p=92976"},"modified":"2025-02-12T19:17:39","modified_gmt":"2025-02-12T22:17:39","slug":"central-bank-president-warns-of-challenging-period-ahead-due-to-inflation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/murray.adv.br\/en\/central-bank-president-warns-of-challenging-period-ahead-due-to-inflation\/","title":{"rendered":"Central Bank president warns of challenging period ahead due to inflation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><em><strong>Gabriel Gal\u00edpolo sees country in \u201celevated level\u201d from the perspective of monetary tightening<\/strong><\/em><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>02\/12\/2025 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Central Bank President Gabriel Gal\u00edpolo said that \u201cwe are moving towards a quite elevated level from the perspective of monetary tightening.\u201d Mr. Gal\u00edpolo participated in an event on Wednesday morning organized by the Brazilian Center for International Relations (Cebri), the Institute of Economic Policy Studies\/Casa das Gar\u00e7as, and the Center for Public Policy Debates (CDPP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The central banker, who took over Brazil\u2019s monetary authority earlier this year, explained that \u201cit\u2019s logical\u201d that Brazil will navigate a short-term \u201cuncomfortable\u201d period for society, businesses, and families, \u201ca time when inflation should remain at an uncomfortable level, outside the target, reflecting all past events, and you expect monetary policy to gradually take effect and present a deceleration process.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Gal\u00edpolo said that within the Central Bank\u2019s baseline scenario, what is set is \u201can absolutely traditional expectation of what is expected from the transmission mechanisms of monetary policy. In other words, from that point, you begin to witness a deceleration process.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The COPOM raised the Selic policy rate to 13.25% per annum from 12.25% at the last meeting, in January.
